Postmodernism at the Eye Doctor
We were both waiting
for the eye doctor,
she reading a book,
and me
drawing a picture
of her
reading a book.
She seemed to be reading
a book that she never
wanted to be over,
like some people
live their lives.
I watched her
out of the corner
of my eye
read the last
page over
and over,
as if she could
prolong
or
change the
ending
the next time around.
