Not Ruth, or no truth, is certainly another option.
Perhaps she is so evasive
because she is not in hiding,
but rather does not (and never did) exist.
Could we live with truly
understanding the biology of
love or the inevitability
of death? Could we stand
to hear that we are below
average in everything, or
that our careless and
thoughtless acts had crippled
or killed good people?
Imagine a truthless
world where perceptions
are and will be as close
as we'll ever get to those secrets
we so yearned
to discover
in a previous life.
